Organization Contingency Theory And Microbusiness In A Stable Context: Firms Are More Formalized Than Predicted.

Lauren Spatig, (No affiliation in address)

ABSTRACT
This study examines independent microbusiness owners with affiliation to a parent company in the financial services and insurance industry in order to understand organizational and management practices in a relatively homogenous and stable context. Responses from 264 owners with an average of three employees are discussed. This study finds formalization in this context, as defined by written documentation, to be higher than predicted by contingency theory and small business literature.
