ABSTRACT
Today's business environment is characterized by globalization which leads companies to seek greater synergies. Virtual teams are one of the answers to creating synergy in a collaborative way. However new knowledge and adequate behaviors are necessary. Collaboration and efficient teamwork do not come naturally. They require the development of specific competences for both team leaders and team players, such as intercultural communication skills and the capacity to lead and participate in on-line meetings. Also needed is the efficient use of technical support and basic preparation and follow-up tools such as agendas and minutes of meetings. This is an experiential learning exercise which encourages learning-by-doing. It familiarizes undergraduate students with the challenges of virtual teams as well as reminding executive education students of key success factors to virtual team management.
